General Information
Entry Visa
Tourist Visa is obtainable for a fee of US$ 20. Three passport
size photos are required. Tourist Visa is valid for a stay of 28
days which is extendable for an additional 14 days.
Visa on arrival can be obtained on prior arrangement with the
Ministry of Hotels & Tourism.
Custom
Visitors may bring in any amount of foreign currency but it must
be declared to the Customs if it exceeds US$ 2000, jewellery,
electrical articles should be declared at the airport on arrival.
Export of antiques and archaeologically valuable objects is
prohibited.
Duty Free Allowance
Two bottles of liquor, two cartons of cigerettes, 100 cigars; 1.5
lb of tabacco, one pint bottle of perfume.
Currency
Myanmar currency is Kyat ( pronounced " chat " ). The
denominations are 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000.
Foreign Exchange Certificates ( FEC ) is issued in $ 1, $ 5, $ 10, $
20 denominations are convenient for travellers in payment for
Airtickets, Hotel Bills and Entrance fees. There is no compulsory
exchange of US Dollars into FEC for any tourist.

Business Hours
Banks are open Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Government offices on weekdays only from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
Reconfirmation
Visitors are advised to reconfirm International flights.
Drinking Water
It is not advisable to drink tap water, but bottled mineral water
is safe and available in everywhere.
Food
Myanmar food is influenced by the Indian and Chinese cuisines.
The staples food are rice, rice noodle & curries. Myanmar food and
Chinese food are very popular.
Clothing
Light cotton clothing is suitable for all year round. Light
jackets and long sleeve sweaters should be brought when visiting
northern parts, hill stations during the cold season. Sandals or
slippers are convenient. Shoes and socks or stockings must be
removed at Pagodas and Monasteries.
Shopping
You are advised to buy lacquer-wares, wood and stone carvings,
hand-wooven silk and cotton, embroidered tapestries, puppet and
handicrafts.
Myanmar is renowned for its precious stones especially rubies,
sapphires, jade, red spinal, etc.
All gem and jewellery purchases should be made through the
government-licensed dealers where you will be given an official
receipt for taking out of the country.
